GM Daher’s visit in China

On the 25th June Grand Master Michael Daher, the Vice-President of International Taekwon-Do Federation revisited China on the official invitation from the International United Taekwon-Do Association China.

The main purpose of the visit was to introduce the Allied Association to the Government body and meet the newly affiliated instructors, that have joined since the previous visit. We had a meeting to instruct the group on how to form a proper association to work with the ITF Constitution, as well as a meeting  in preparation of the upcoming IIC Course in Shenyang.

The organizers greeted GM Daher with a fantastic welcoming by the group. From the airport we went straight to the first meeting which went until 1am, the trip was very rushed with the limited time and the work that needed to be done. On the second day, at 9am we started the Congress meeting of IUTA China, with over 15 newly joined instructors present. In this meeting I explained to the group what the ITF expected from them as an organization and what the ITF expected of them as Instructors. There was a lot of discussion on how to apply for ITF Certificates and ITF Replacement certificates. This has been explained now to them in detail, the right way following the ITF Constitution. This Congress meeting had major media coverage from televisions stations to Newspapers. I did a small demonstration for the media.

3rd SOUTH ASIAN OPEN TAEKWON-DO CHAMPIONSHIP, which was held on 31st May – 1st June 2019 at Talkatora Indoor Stadium, New Delhi, India. At the event participated seven countries including India, Uzbekistan, Malaysia, Nepal, Afghanistan, Madagascar and Bangladesh with over 300 competitors.

India bagged first prize trophy by winning over all 282 medals whereas Uzbekistan stood on second position by scoring 25 medals and last but not the least 3rd position was acquired by Malaysia by winning 14 medals in total.

The centres of focal point were honourable Grand Master Willem Jacob Bos, 9th degree and his team including Master Harry Vones, Master Gordon Wallace, Master Mark Banicevich, Sabum Yves Pollefeyt, Sabum Wim Vermandere, Sabum Johann de Silva and Sabum Aniil EM.

I have come to believe that a great teacher is a great artist and that there are as few as there are any other great artists. It might even be the greatest of the arts since the medium is the human mind and spirit. I, on the behalf of IITF would like to take an opportunity to thank and feel fortunate to have such brilliant Grand Masters and Masters for making this event a grand success. They have dedicated their valuable time and shared their everlasting knowledge during this tournament. We can never thank enough to our ITF President Grand Master Paul Weiler, 9th degree for giving us exceptional cooperation and assistance in every possible way.

Highlights of the tournament were the advanced technology that included sport data system, electronic scoring system, points display screens and Seminar for basic TKD training which was conducted on 30th May 2019. This was all done under the supervision and direction of Grand Master Willem Jacob Bos.

I have to say that the tournament started with excellent competition and the competitors performing at a spectacular standard. Well done Coaches/ Instructors/ Mentors, they really are a credit. Well done to parents and carers. Without them the mazing children would not be in martial arts and being mentored by amazing coaches.

To recapitulate, this championship came out to be a wonderful success by winning lots of appreciation and recognition. Moreover, all the participants and their team coaches got magnificent and detailed understanding of proper techniques and skills. Furthermore, it was a great achievement for all of us.
